ALABAMA BONSAI SOCIETY

GROWING TREES IN BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA SINCE 1974

Our October meeting at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens was filled with a variety of activities.

We started with a brief business meeting and elected officers for the coming year. Doug Unkenholz will continue as President, Victor Wilson will be our new Vice President, and Steve Jones and Anita Fowler will continue as Treasurer and Secretary respectively.

We also made a decision to resume collecting dues, a practice that had been on hiatus since the pandemic started in 2020. Details on making payment will be forthcoming, and we made a couple of changes to our dues structure and member benefits. For a $50.00 annual fee, members will receive a club t-shirt, be able to enter trees in our spring show, and have priority status reserving space when we have a visiting artist at workshops.

Methods of payment will be announced in November.

In addition to our usual member-meeting-show, we had a presentation from Sean Perkins. Sean is a local artist who has exhibited at our shows in the past. He specializes in naturally collected stones and driftwood pieces and has been developing a number of pieces specifically for bonsai use. You can get only a glimpse of some of his work in the photos above. To see more, you need to plan on attending the show in May 2023, where he will be exhibiting his works for sale.
