ALABAMA BONSAI SOCIETY

GROWING TREES IN BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA SINCE 1974

While Our Trees Sleep …

For Alabama Bonsai Society members February is the time that we get busy for spring while our trees are enjoying the last month of dormancy. This year has been a particularly busy February for us, with three different chances to get together to learn from one another and from experts.

Jennifer Price Workshop

For the second year in a row Jennifer Price was our visiting artist for a workshop at Aldridge Gardens. You can learn more about her on the National Bonsai Foundation website. She spent some one-on-one time with a few members who have more extensive collections, and she also conducted four classes for small groups of members. It’s a real pleasure to have her as an instructor, because she is always clear in what she wants to convey. She made it clear that there were two bonsai professionals in the room, recognizing John Walker’s contribution to ABS and to the Aldeidge Bonsai Group.

This year the participants included both Alabama Bonsai Society members and a few new people. I think our age range was pretty close to 70 years from the youngest to the oldest. It’s clear from the photos below we all had a great time. Members got a discount on the fee to join one or more of those classes.

Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing your time and expertise with us!

February’s Saturday Workshop

Our first monthly workshop at the Naphcare Education Building at Aldricge Gardens was great time for our members to meet with the Gardens’ bonsai group to share ideas and prepare trees. If you’re interested in bonsai, this is a great way to be introduced to the process. If you’d like to be on our mailing list, use the form on our Contact Page to get in touch with our officers.
